In the zone is a term used to describe a state of mind whereby a person is working at peak or optimal performance. Used to describe a state of consciousness where actual skills match the perceived performance requirements perfectly. Being in the zone implies increased focus and attention which allows for higher levels of performance. Musicians, and anybody that totally “owns” a challenge of physical or mental performance can be, “in the zone.”

In an attempt to capture this state of mind, I have created a series of six double exposed images of different kinds of musicians, varying from professionals to amateurs, playing their musical instruments.

Accompanying the images are some audio recordings of the sounds captured during my sessions with the musicians, this sets out to resemble the moments of focus and attention.
